The Okemesi/Ido-Ile Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable infrastructure development with the successful construction of strategic drainages and a culvert in Okemesi-Ekiti, a project designed to improve flood control, protect road infrastructure, and enhance the safety and well-being of residents.
The project is part of the LCDA's broader commitment to providing durable infrastructure that addresses critical community needs while promoting environmental sustainability and economic development.
Speaking on the completion of the project, the Chairman of the Okemesi/Ido-Ile LCDA described the construction of the drainage channels and culvert as a proactive intervention aimed at addressing recurring erosion and flooding challenges experienced in parts of the community.
"This project reflects our administration's determination to deliver practical solutions to infrastructure challenges affecting our people. By constructing these drainages and culvert, we are improving water management, protecting our roads from deterioration, and creating a safer environment for motorists, pedestrians, and residents," the Chairman stated.
The newly constructed drainage system is expected to ensure the free flow of stormwater, reduce the risk of flooding during the rainy season, and minimize damage to public infrastructure and private properties. The culvert will also improve connectivity by allowing uninterrupted movement of people and vehicles while strengthening the resilience of the surrounding road network.
Residents and community stakeholders have welcomed the project, describing it as a timely intervention that will improve public safety, enhance environmental sanitation, and contribute to the long-term development of Okemesi-Ekiti.
The Chairman expressed appreciation to the Government of Ekiti State, traditional rulers, community leaders, engineers, contractors, and residents for their support and cooperation throughout the execution of the project.
